As an adult, I've never really tried archery as a sport or even as a hobby mainly because, frankly, it's too expensive for something that's just pure show. I don't mean that in an offensive way but it's just an objective opinion on the matter; since I consider myself a pacifist, staunchly against hunting as a hobby. At this point, I just see no practical application for something that requires dedication and resources.
That being said, one of the most memorable toy from my childhood was an off-white plastic bow which shoots suction arrows. I remember I only got to play with that magnificent toy because my sister accidentally broke the bow in half. Every now and again, the coolness of the sport would re-ignite every time I see the cool archer trope in movies, especially the original Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart, Fuu Hououji (Magic Knight Rayearth) and the elves of Middle Earth (Peter Jackson's LOTR) until 2016 when I finally grasped an actual bow at Gandiva Archery in their old One Corporate location. It was a quiet Sunday morning so the place was not at all busy and it felt like I got to experience the essential calmness that shooting arrows can potentially bring. Naturally it took almost an hour for me to hit the bull's eye, processing all the basics: stance, grip, the target, safety, etc. and still I ended up with a bruised left forearm (sadly how I learned what the arm guard was for). After a couple more visits to Gandiva and Kodanda Archery Range in Makati, I noticed that the hits in my target paper have continually been converging into the bull's eye, even with sessions months apart.
