KP goes to Baguio (again)

Since last year I have been volunteering at a non-profit organization called Kapon Pilipinas (KP) founded by PAWS' former shelter veterinarian doing mostly clinical assistance work and muscly types of stuff since the group -- almost of which were and are also PAWS volunteers -- are mostly females. It's the organization's objective to travel far-flung areas of the countries, especially those with limited to no access to veterinary care and aid the community by providing totally free spay/neuter services to owned pets. It is also gives a chance to educate communities about pet care and compassion to animals.

Practically rockstars

As the founder of KP claims he wants a very small and robust well-rounded team of dedicated volunteers, I was actually surprised to get an invitation to join because I honestly don't particularly consider himself outstandingly skilled in a specific work in spay/neuter operations. I mean yes, I've handled behavioral training of dogs at the animal shelter, and assisted in some events before (I've been a waiter, a runner, a tour guide, and, a mascot in my years volunteering), but even to just being considered in such a specialized team is really an honor I'm very thankful for.

Last year, the team had went to Samar. The first outreach program I joined was in Bantayan Island off of Cebu, and then in Baguio. The KP vet evidently provided topnotch (not to mention free) service that we were asked to return this year, now with more members than before. The group's reputation obviously precedes us because the venue, the people, the accommodation, the food? You name it, everything had been well-thought-out we were essentially rock stars on a leg of a tour. I also had a chance to spend time with a Spanish veterinarian who came to shadow under the KP vet. Of course I tried to squeeze the remaining Espanol out of me but I ran out 2 minutes in.

This outreach was made possible by the efforts of a group called Baguio Cat Lovers, who have been totally reliable and accommodating.

Man, I cannot stress enough how memorable this trip is.
